README file for ScaryFish III, Evaluation Version.
Program Description:
ScaryFish III is a fishing simulation game for 1-4 players.
Realistic simulation of all aspects of fishing including exploring
diverse areas filled with fishing holes, tackle selection, casting,
fighting fish, humorous mishaps, and more. Dozens of fish (and a few
non-fish!) species. Over 250 bait/lure rigs, many rods, reels, line
strengths, and miscellaneous items. Has "relaxing" (1 player) mode and
tournament (1-4 player) mode. Extensive records. Game has a
customizable fish "screensaver".
Evaluation version has fully-functional access to 3 of the game's
"worlds" containing over half of the game's 64 base species. To
reduce distribution file size, some evaluation world scenery graphics
are not included; i.e. their full version equivalents have more
scenery graphics. Most items are available in the evaluation version
but new characters start with only a small percentage of items. The
items not available at any evaluation version stores aren't needed to
enjoy the game.
Distribution / Copyright Summary:
This is a freely-distributable trial version. Ordering information
for the full version is available in ORDER.TXT and CRORDER.TXT.
Distribution of this evaluation version is allowed and encouraged
as long as all original files are included unmodified. Archive format
may be changed. Evaluation length is unlimited for both time and
number of uses.

programs, graphics, sound, documentation, and data are owned by PMP
Software and protected by US and international copyright, with the
following exceptions:
Hillbilly Banjo sound effect created by "Beep" of "Taum Sauk".
Urban Beat sound effect and soundcard bite tones created by "The Dope".
Current Version: 3.01
Changes from previous version:
- Removal of several small bugs
- Added "Can't do that" sound effect
System Requirements:
- Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT.
System Recommendations:
- 16-bit or better color. Game will run in 8-bit (256 color) mode
but the game's graphic images won't look as good, and 256-color
palettes won't look as good when switching between programs.
- A mouse is recommended for quicker option selection in menus and
window controls.
- A sound card is recommended for digital sound effects.
Installation:
Run the file SETUP.EXE. The setup program will let you choose a
directory to install the game, view this readme file, etc.
Running the game:
Filename is SCARY3.EXE in the directory where you installed the
game. Run as you would any executable. The install program has an
option to create a Start->Programs entry; the default program files
group is "ScaryFish III".
Uninstalling the game:
Setup program creates an uninstall .exe file to remove all files
the game put on your machine. Uninstall also removes the game's
directory if no other files exist there.
Additional documentation:
S3HELP.TXT - detailed documentation you can read as you would any
text file.
S3HELP.HTM - same as above but in HTML format with hypertext links
between related topics.
LICENSE.TXT - license agreement.
Ordering information:
See ORDER.TXT and CRORDER.TXT for ordering instructions. Full version
starts at $25 (US dollars). Primary benefit is access to more fishing
worlds. S3HELP has descriptions of full version worlds, "sequel" worlds,
and the game's Make Your Own Worlds utility.
Quick Help for New Players in S3HELP gives suggested instructions for
1st-timers. Quick Help suggests making your first trip to City Park
Lake, but people such as reviewers who only have time for 1 or 2
sessions should go to Medium-Sized River or Local Bass Lakes instead.
Bugs in current version:
- The Preferences property page has a superfluous Help button that does
nothing.
Online help:
PMP Software webpage has many files including a ScaryFish Support
FAQ and links to other webpages devoted to the game.
